Gun engraving is its own discipline with its own grammar. English scroll on a sidelock is not interchangeable with Germanic game scenes or Italian bulino, and a piece cut in the wrong idiom will look wrong to anyone who knows the field, however well executed.

Case-hardened steel is hard, thin over the colours, and punishing on tools. The work is done before hardening wherever the maker permits it. Where the piece is already finished, cutting depth is kept shallow and the colours are protected.

The studio works on furniture, actions, trigger guards and fittings supplied loose or through the gunmaker. We do not handle complete firearms, and all work is arranged through the client's registered dealer or gunmaker.

What we handle

Work begins with a conversation.

The studio takes a limited number of commissions each quarter. Enquiries are read by the engraver, not by an assistant.
