Watch Cases

Casebacks, lugs and bezels, on pieces where a slip is not recoverable.

A caseback is the most common private commission the studio sees and the least forgiving. The surface is small, usually curved, often mirror-polished, and the object it belongs to may be worth more than a car.

Cases are worked out of the watch. The movement comes out, the crystal is protected, the gaskets are inspected and the case is fixtured on a purpose-cut delrin nest so nothing is clamped against a finished surface. We do not engrave through a case opening or with a movement in place.

Where the caseback carries a sapphire display panel or the case is titanium or ceramic, hand cutting is usually the wrong answer and annealed laser is the right one. We will say so.
