Most commissions are simple to describe and difficult to execute. What follows is what the studio does, and how it decides which method a piece deserves.

Bright-cut ornament, monograms, crests and armorials cut by hand in precious metal and steel.

ContinueChoosing between hand and laser
- Hand, when the mark is the point
Ornament, armorials, anything decorative, anything that will be looked at closely and judged as craft. Also anything that must match existing hand work.
- Laser, when the mark must simply be right
Serialisation, movement components, hardened alloys, sealing surfaces that cannot lose depth, and any mark that must repeat identically.
- Both, more often than you would think
A cased set might take hand-cut armorials on the lid and annealed laser inventory marks underneath. There is no conflict between the two.
How commissions are handled
- Acceptance
The studio accepts a limited number of commissions each quarter. Scheduling is honest rather than optimistic.
- Quoting
Fixed price after the drawing stage, not before. An estimate given without a drawing is a guess.
- Handling
Pieces are logged, photographed, held in a safe and worked on one at a time. Nothing sits open on a bench overnight.
- Return
Insured courier or collection in person. Packaging carries no studio name or mark.
Work begins with a conversation.
The studio takes a limited number of commissions each quarter. Enquiries are read by the engraver, not by an assistant.
